Flood Recovery, 2023-2024

My home in the Mad River Valley flooded during Irene in 2011, something I experienced alongside a survivor of Katrina in New Orleans. I painted after the 2011 flood and the 2023 floods throughout Central Vermont; the only two times I ever painted with a varnish. Varnish isn’t something I love and it captures the feeling of flooding to me: thick, wet, unpredictable bordering out of control.
