Lee Miller Observed by 12 Angry Men

I was shocked to learn the story of the fearless war photographer Lee Miller this year via Kate Winslet’s incredible film. I was also shocked that I’d never heard of her before. I read her son’s biography and then watched the film a second time, ravenous to understand the woman who brought us some of humanity’s most tragic stories better. I had the idea to paint one of her most iconic photographs observed by the jurors of the classic film 12 Angry Men as a way of revisiting how both of these stories, from decades before my own birth, resonate in my life today.
